Learning is turning darkness, which is the absence of light, into light. Learning is creation. It is making something out of nothing. Learning grows until it dawns on you.

The Case of Nora, Feldenkrais, 1977

ABOUT KRISTA

My work as a Feldenkrais practitioner is richly informed by my lifelong career as a professional dancer and teacher, and over twenty years of practice in many forms of bodywork and somatic exploration. I am an adjunct professor of dance at Macalester College, and have an Associates degree in Occupational Studies from the Swedish Institute College of Health Sciences in New York. In previous incarnations I was a Massage, Shiatsu and Craniosacral therapist, and have studied many other modalities including the Alexander Technique, Klein technique and Body-Mind Centering™.

Along with an entire life dedicated to moving and the study of movement, I have undergone many types of therapy to heal from trauma and illness. It was in this period of illness, recovery and caretaking, that I began to study with Faye Berton, a Feldenkrais Practitioner and founder of Fluid Strength, a practice based on the tenets of the Feldenkrais Method. This led me to the four year Feldenkrais Practitioner training program in Santa Fe, NM under the educational direction of Diana Razumny.

Moshe Feldenkrais’ definition of health is the ability to recover from shock and to live our unavowed dreams. In other words, resilience and action. My journey over the last 10 years, is a testament to the potency of the work. Through the expansive work developed by Feldenkrais, I am excited to continue supporting others to uncover their own unique way of learning and changing, to let go of habits that aren’t useful anymore, and to experience the continued growth possible in all areas of life.

There have been many teachers along the way. I am deeply grateful to Diana Razumny, Carol Kress, Katrin Smithback, Faye Berton, Barbara Mahler, Jill Larsen, Sue Wolfe & Bruce Gibbs for their unerring direction and deep wisdom.
