AWARENESS THROUGH MOVEMENT
cultivate ease and efficiency
Group classes | AWARENESS THROUGH MOVEMENT (ATM)
Awareness Through Movement refers to the group class element of the Feldenkrais Method. Each lesson is ~60 minutes and is offered on Zoom or in person. Through oral instruction rather than demonstration, the student discovers their own way through the lesson, uncovering habits and unlocking new sensations and experiences that can lead to profound and lasting results in mobility and freedom from injury. Lessons are always open to people of all ages and abilities, and adaptations can always be made.
ATM class most often takes place lying down, but occasionally in a sitting or standing position. There is a strong emphasis on moving slowly, easily, and staying within the range of personal comfort. ATM is perhaps different from other movement classes in that its goals are not about stretching, strengthening, relaxing, meditating, or imitating. Instead lessons are designed to engage your curiosity in yourself and to refine your innate powers of awareness. I co-teach all classes with Feldenkrais practitioner Jeffrey Wells.

six week series: nov 6 - dec 18, 2025 (no class Nov 27)
If everything is equally unimportant
What if, when you thought about your body, no one part stood out as more crucial—or more in need of fixing—than another?
What if, when faced with a decision, you set aside the pressure to find the “best” or “right” choice?
Moshe Feldenkrais once suggested we act as if each aspect of ourselves is equally unimportant. But what did he mean by that? Why unimportant, instead of equally important? What does that little “un-” open up for us?
In this six-week Zoom series, we’ll use these questions as our guide. Through Feldenkrais Awareness Through Movement lessons, we’ll explore how to move with more of ourselves through functional, integrated action. Come find out what happens when you stop chasing better and start sensing more.this six-week series, we'll explore how cross motivations - competing desires and impulses - can scatter our energy and muddy our movement. Moshe Feldenkrais observed that "every action we do is controlled by several motivations. When these are not in harmony, the movement becomes confused, dispersed, and difficult." What happens when what we think and how we act misalign? If we can clarify our intention, can our movement get easier and more effective? Each week we will delve into a new Awareness Through Movement lesson, and experiment with ways to harmonize motivation with action and literally reshape our nervous system’s patterns and potential in the process.

Three fall Workshops: Oct 13, Nov 17 & dec 15, 2025
The Knees know when the hips flow
Workshop #1: October 13 Discovering the Connection
Workshop #2: November 17 Deepening the Dialogue
Workshop #3: December 15 Integrating the Whole
Join us for a three-part Monday evening series exploring the dynamic relationship between your knees and your hips — and how clarifying this pivotal relationship can influence your entire self in motion. Through Feldenkrais Awareness Through Movement lessons, we’ll discover how the knees and hips work in harmony, and how their coordination supports balance, ease, and adaptability from head to toe. Each workshop is distinct, blending anatomical insight with deep sensory listening to help you move with greater clarity, freedom, and intelligence. As you refine how your hips and knees interact, you may notice surprising shifts in your posture, gait, and self-perception. Expect to leave with a renewed sense of connection — not just in your joints, but in your whole moving self.
