AWARENESS THROUGH MOVEMENT
cultivate ease and efficiency
Group classes | AWARENESS THROUGH MOVEMENT (ATM)
Awareness Through Movement refers to the group class element of the Feldenkrais Method. Each lesson is ~60 minutes and is offered on Zoom or in person. Through oral instruction rather than demonstration, the student discovers their own way through the lesson, uncovering habits and unlocking new sensations and experiences that can lead to profound and lasting results in mobility and freedom from injury. Lessons are always open to people of all ages and abilities, and adaptations can always be made.
ATM class most often takes place lying down, but occasionally in a sitting or standing position. There is a strong emphasis on moving slowly, easily, and staying within the range of personal comfort. ATM is perhaps different from other movement classes in that its goals are not about stretching, strengthening, relaxing, meditating, or imitating. Instead lessons are designed to engage your curiosity in yourself and to refine your innate powers of awareness. I co-teach all classes with Feldenkrais practitioner Jeffrey Wells.

six week series: feb 5 - mar 12, 2026
Inhabiting our bodies
When our external world is marked by instability and uncertainty, our bodies often intelligently respond by tightening, bracing, and staying on alert in a deep pattern of self-preservation. Over time, this kind of vigilance can drain our vital resources and limit how we move, breathe, and imagine change.
This six-week Feldenkrais series will engage you in movement explorations that move you toward a sense of calm readiness and the feeling that you can respond easefully, quickly, and intelligently based on your own desires as you react to the dynamic world. Special attention will be given to your spine and ribs as central organizers of motion, and the housing for the essential organs of your lungs and heart.
Through these lessons, we practice inhabiting our bodies—not as sites of control, but as places of choice, adaptability, resilience, and refuge.

head, neck, shoulders: an integrated approach
If you have ongoing neck or shoulder discomfort, or simply want greater freedom and precision in movement, this series is for you!
Workshop #1: March 2
Orientation: Exploring how the head, senses, and spine organize
Workshop #2: April 6
Differentiation: Refining the distinct roles of neck, shoulders, ribs, and arms to reduce unnecessary effort.
Workshop #3: May 4
Integration: Allowing the head, spine, and shoulder girdle to coordinate as a responsive whole.
Join us for a three-part Monday evening Feldenkrais® Awareness Through Movement series of workshops. We’ll explore the dynamic relationship between the head, neck, and shoulders, recognizing that while the cervical spine allows remarkable mobility, that same freedom can invite strain. The head organizes how we look, listen, and orient through our teleceptors (the eyes, ears, and sense of smell), and that outward attention directly shapes the neck and shoulders. The shoulders are designed to float and glide over the ribs and allow the arms to reach with ease; yet because the arms connect to the trunk at only two small skeletal joints, habitual muscular holding and misuse can quickly narrow mobility, which in turn can affect not only the arms, but the neck, head, and upper back as well.
As winter thaws towards spring, the tension in our shoulders, neck and head can thaw as well, releasing excess effort and rediscovering structural support. Each workshop stands alone, yet together they form a coherent progression, with each session laying the groundwork for the next.
